Oh yeah, Panacur. Three days isn't bad. Let's hope she improves quickly. Is she still living with the others or on her own?

She's inside, in the kennel. It's very hot, and even indoors she's holding her wings out and has her beak open. She'll let me know if and when she's ready to join the others again. She is eating a bit, but only canned corn and a little yogurt.

I don't know, maybe I should just move closer to TX A&M...

    I think by now you should at least own a portion of Tx A&M! Too bad not under different circumstances, though. Well, now that I think about it...wasn't the gas company or some other corporation going to come on to your land...and you have those pesky fire ants...and it's awfully hot...maybe it's time to move closer!!! Ah, but you've also mentioned the wildflowers and the fields and all that good stuff, too. What's a woman to do!

Poor Petey, the heat can't be making her feel much better either. At least she's inside in the kennel.

Not so good. She's not eating and she looks really woozy, like the room is spinning, or something. She gets her last dose of wormer later today, and I started her back on the Baytril this morning. I need to get a different formulation of it. It's so dilute that I have to give her 2cc, and she manages to bring too much of it up and out. Our technique could stand improvement, I'm sure, but it would be easier if we were dealing with a smaller amount. I'm waiting for a callback from the vet this morning to see if the A&M vet had any other suggestions.

You are becoming the expert on everything chicken related. I swear, with the experience you've had (What little I'm aware of, anyway.) you are. Not in the way anyone would want to become an expert, but one nonetheless.

I'm so sorry she's not doing well. One of the most difficult things, for me anyway, is to watch one (or any) of my animals be sick or not feel well. You must have an amazing capacity for patience and kindness.

Let us know what the vet says.

Been offline a while. Petey's status is still up in the air. She's gotten a bit better in the last couple of days, but not recovered enough to rejoin the group. She periodically objects, loudly, to her indoor confinement and I let her out for a bit, but can see she's still not well.

She kind of goes into a trance-like state just before a poop, and I get the impression that it pains her somehow. She poops, then gets really unsteady on her feet and plops down for a few minutes. She'll look okay for a while, and then it all starts again.

The vet said in all honesty that if it is a liver malfunction, there is not a great chance that it will be treatable. If we do a look/see and perhaps biopsy, it will probably have to be the week after next. My husband doesn't want to put her through it, as he is really squeamish about all things medical, but I'm inclined to go through with it, assuming she makes it that long. Tough choices.

I'm sorry this hasn't been resolved. And I'm sorry you have difficult choices to make. This just can't be easy.

While I can only offer moral support - think of how many here wish Petey well and offer their best thoughts.

Thanks for the good thoughts. After being totally convinced again that I was going to lose her today, she perked up a little this evening and ate a bite. She'll have 8 or 9 bowls lined up with anything I can think of to try to get her to eat. Today all she would eat was 2 grapes. She has lived for days on nothing but small amounts of canned corn and yogurt. This evening she ate a little deli turkey, a few roasted mealworms and even a bit of chicken feed.

So I hope she gets better from here, but I have no illusions that this is the end of it.

Thanks for the update. Good to hear she's eating at least a little. Amazing that she's gone so long without food the way they eat all day. We'll see what tomorrow brings. And yes, good thoughts are with you.
